1. Mount Fuji Hiking Trail

Location : Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefectures, Japan

Mount Fuji has a height of about 12,388 meters above sea level, and is a famous icon of Japan. The mountain is still active today, and is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Japan. Not only beautiful, but on this route you have to be careful, at high altitude the air will thin out, making it difficult for you to breathe.

The trails leading to Mount Fuji are color coded for each trail. The Yoshida Line is colored yellow, the Subashiri Line is red, the Gotemba Line is green, and finally the Fujinomiya Line is blue. each path has a variety of terrain and different travel times. The Yoshida Trail is the most famous of the four trails leading to Mount Fuji.

2. Kumano Kodo . Pilgrimage Hiking Trail

The Kumano Kodo Trail is a route usually used by pilgrims, and has been in use for about 1000 years. On this pilgrimage route there are three temples which are the center of this religious journey. The three shrines are Hongu Taisha, Hayatama Taisha, and Nachi Taisha, the three of which are usually referred to as Kumano Sanzan.

There are about five hiking trails in Kumano Kodo, and the most famous of them is Nakaheci. The Nakahechi Line is a path that is still maintained today with roads passing through forests and villages. This trail usually takes five days, but you can also take a shorter route.

You can choose the shorter path by using the bus to reach the desired starting and ending paths. On this path you can also see the highest waterfall in Japan, namely Nachi Falls. You can also rest in an onsen or the famous hot springs from this trail.

3. Mount Takao Trail

The Nakasendo hiking trail is an old postal trail that connects Kyoto, the ancient capital city, with Edo, which is now known as Tokyo. This long path can be said to be a historic path, you can follow the entire path or only part of it.

The Nakasendo Line is the most popular route among local and foreign tourists. The winding roads offer views of the mountains, countryside, ancient forests, as well as small rivers. Even though the route has become a tourist area, this route still offers a path rich in history and also an authentic culture.

5. Shikoku Henro . Pilgrimage Hiking Trail

Location : Tokushima Prefecture, Kochi Prefecture, Ehime Prefecture, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan

This pilgrimage trail takes one to two months to complete. This pilgrimage route passes through four prefectures with each prefecture having a function on each route. The Tokushima Prefectural Line has the function of awakening, the Kochi Prefectural Line is for ascetic training, the Ehime Prefectural Line means Enlightenment, and the Kagawa Prefectural Line means Heaven.

6. Daisetsuzan Hiking Trail

Location : Sounkyo, Kamikawa, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido Prefecture 078-1701, Japan.

Daisetsuzan is the largest national park in Japan with a size of about 888 square miles. Daisetsuzen has many hiking trails that hiking lovers are sure to enjoy . Fans of hiking activities can traverse the path called Daisetsuzan Grand with a travel time of about 5-7 days.

If you only have a minute, you can follow the Ashi-dake hiking trail to the highest peak in Hokkaido. This trip you can take about 2-3 hours for one way. The Shiratani Unsuikyo Trail is a forest that was the inspiration for the anime Princess Mononoke . The forest is mystical and has a wet climate, there are flowing rivers, and a layer of green moss that adorns the forest. 8. Kamikochi Hiking Trail

The Kamikochi hiking trail is part of the Chubu Sangaku National Park, precisely in a valley of the Azusa River with an altitude of about 1500 meters above sea level. This place is also often said to be almost similar in beauty to the Yosemite Valley in the United States. This route can only be reached by bus or taxi, while private cars are prohibited from entering.

The hiking trail that follows the Azusa River from Taisho Pond to Myojin Bridge has a flatter trail. The track is flat so you don’t need more experience to walk this route. Hiking in Kamimochi allows you to see the changing color of the leaves on the trees in autumn.
