1. Taka Ishii Art Gallery

Taka Ishii is an art gallery that focuses more on photography and film. The gallery is located in the Ropponggi area and opened in 1994. This art gallery aims to provide space for young local and international artists to develop by providing them with support and guidance.

Taka Ishii Art Gallery is a well-known contemporary art gallery in Tokyo. Now they have expanded their gallery. The newest location is in a building which is a gallery complex in the Ropponggi area. The gallery is on the third floor of a building called Complex 665 and has now expanded its program to include other artistic media.

2. SCAI Bathhouse Art Gallery

SCAI Bathhouse is one of the best contemporary art galleries in Tokyo. An art gallery that you must visit when you are in Tokyo, especially for art lovers. This gallery has a quite unique place. The place comes from a bathhouse with an age that has reached 200 years.

But now this bathhouse has been renovated and also innovatively designed to become a space to promote art. The architecture of the building that is still preserved makes it worth a visit to experience the uniqueness of the building itself. You can feel the feel of old Japan with its traditional minimalist architectural style.

3. Perrotin Art Gallery

The Perrotin Art Gallery is an extension of the existing Perrotin Art Gallery in France. This art gallery was first built in Paris France on the initiative of Emmanuel Perrotin.

Its Tokyo branch opened in 2017. Emmanuel Perrotin was the one who first introduced Takashi Murakaki to the world.

Perrotin currently occupies a pyramid building located in downtown Roppongi, at the base of the building. His exhibitions come from artists from all over the world, consisting of dozens of contemporary artists. This gallery has been expanded to six cities around the world including the city of Tokyo.

4. Take Ninagawa Art Gallery

The Take Ninagawa Art Gallery is a gallery that is considered a place for the birth of new artists. In addition, this gallery also contributes to making Tokyo the center of contemporary art in the world. Now famous artists such as Misaki Kawai, shiro Ohtake, and Soju Tao started their careers, apart from some international artists as well.

The main exhibition space in this art gallery is on the first floor, while on the ground floor there is a cafe and also a room for holding an event . On the roof of the building there is an organic garden that you can rent to grow the plants you want.

6. Mizuma Art Gallery

Mizuma Art Gallery was opened around 1994 in Tokyo, by an Executive Director named Sueo Mizuma. After opening, the gallery often exhibits works by Japanese artists as well as artists from Asi, but now they are also exhibiting works of art from foreign artists.

The goal of the Mizuma Gallery is for works by international artists to give Japanese artists the influence they need. Mizuma Gallery is usually looking for artists with their unique personal style to exhibit in order to encourage the creativity of the artists.

7. Ginza Graphic Gallery

Ginza Graphic Gallery or commonly abbreviated as “ggg” is an art gallery managed by the largest printing company in Japan, Dai Nippon Printing.

8. Design Festa Gallery

The Design Festa Gallery is located in the Harajuku area, there are two buildings with 21 exhibition venues, as well as 50 places to exhibit personal works. There are also 20 places for mural activities, something rarely seen in Tokyo. Design Festa is an art gallery that supports local artists regardless of age or nationality.

9. Ota Fine Art Gallery

Ota Fine Art was founded in 1993. Apart from being a pioneer in this small gallery, they also aim to support art with a regional character. Now they also have galleries outside of Japan. The galleries they currently have are in Shanghai and Singapore. They also take part in international art exhibitions

10. Terrada Art Complex

Terrada Art Coplex is an art facility that unites several art galleries in a fairly large warehouse. Terrada itself is a warehousing company for art and wine .

 The complex is now an important part of the tour when it comes to contemporary art. That’s because Terrada has succeeded in making Tennozu Isle the center of artistic culture.

The third and fifth floors are where the art gallery is located. While the other floors such as the fourth floor are usually used as a place for group performances. 

Initially, the Terrada Art Complex consisted of four galleries, namely the Kodama Gallery, Yuka Tsuruno, Yamamoto Gendai, and Urano. Now two new art galleries have been added, namely SCAI Park and Kosaku Kanechika.

Those are some art galleries that you can visit in Tokyo . All of them have an interesting style. These galleries are like a cocoon where young talents are nurtured. Some of these galleries provide opportunities for budding artists to create space.
